Cloud9 signs second, all-Korean Valorant roster of ex-OWL, PUBG pros

Cloud9 has made a strategic decision to expand their Valorant competitive presence by fielding a completely Korean roster. This move represents a calculated expansion beyond their existing North American lineup, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to global esports dominance.

“VALORANT’s esports ecosystem continues to demonstrate remarkable growth, prompting our decision to deepen our organizational footprint. Cloud9 maintains longstanding connections within Korea’s competitive gaming landscape, and this roster represents our latest initiative to cultivate Korean talent within VALORANT. We’re confident these five competitors and coach Autumn align perfectly with our evolving organizational culture and championship aspirations,” explained Cloud9 executive Robin Lee.

The newly assembled team combines elite talent from multiple gaming disciplines, creating a unique blend of strategic expertise.

The team’s foundation includes two prominent former Overwatch League damage specialists: Byeon “Munchkin” Sang-beom and Park “Bazzi” Jun-ki. Munchkin established his reputation through impressive performances with Seoul Dynasty and Boston Uprising, particularly excelling with precision-based heroes. Bazzi brings additional hitscan proficiency from his time competing with Hangzhou Spark and their developmental squad, Bilibili Gaming.

Complementing these OWL veterans are three players transitioning from battle royale titles: Kim “DoYa” Do-gyeong from PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, Yoo “Moothie” Seung-woo who represented DeToNator Korea in Apex Legends, and Kang “Try” Tae-wook, an Overwatch competitor from the pre-league era.

DoYa stands out as the most accomplished competitor, having achieved significant success in PUBG while playing for OGN Entus Force and DAMWON Gaming. During his tenure with Entus, DoYa contributed to what was then Korea’s premier squad, securing victory in PUBG Korea League 2019 Phase 3 and achieving fourth place at the prestigious PUBG Global Championship 2019.

Leading the team strategically is coach Yoon “Autumn” Eu-ddeum, who also transitions from a PUBG background where he guided Entus Force’s affiliate team OGN Entus Ace.

This all-Korean Cloud9 lineup will operate concurrently with the organization’s established Valorant roster. Cloud9’s North American team already features experienced professionals from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, including Josh “shinobi” Abastado and Tyson “TenZ” Ngo, creating a dual-region competitive approach.

The timing for Cloud9’s Korean roster competitive introduction remains undisclosed, though industry analysts anticipate regional qualifier participation within the next competitive cycle. This strategic expansion mirrors approaches seen in other esports titles where organizations maintain multiple regional teams to maximize competitive opportunities and brand presence.
